Words Don't Come Easily...
Eine Welt ohne Worte wäre sehr still. Eine Welt ohne Worte wäre regelrecht nichtssagend. Wir brauchen sie, um uns auszudrücken, um zu diskutieren oder zu beschreiben, um zu sprechen und unsere Gefühle zu äußern. Manchmal können wir schlichtweg nicht das passende Wort im richtigen Augenblick oder der richtigen Situation finden und manchmal ist es sehr schwierig, Dinge überhaupt in Worte zu kleiden. Jeder von uns weiß, dass sie oft nicht einfach zu fassen sind… Nach der großen Jubiläumsausstellung „Licht Linien | (un)wirklich – Light Lines | (un)real“ startet am 14. September 2013 die neue Sonderausstellung im Zentrum für Internationale Lichtkunst Unna: „Words Don’t Come Easily“ ist dieses Mal das Thema der Ausstellung. Es werden Werke internationaler Künstler wie beispielsweise Jason Rhoades gezeigt, die sich in ihren Arbeiten mit der Bedeutung von Sprache auseinandersetzen.

The subject “words” poses the basis of the exhibition – words as a form of communication in all its different kinds of meaning will illuminate the 20 meters long basement vaults. Humans need language to express themselves, to discuss and to express their emotions. Sometimes, though, we just can’t find the right words in the right moment. Everybody knows that words aren’t easy to grasp – “words don’t come easily…”
Following the large anniversary exhibition “Licht Linien | (un)wirklich – Light Lines | (un)real”, on September 13th, 2013 the new special exhibition will open at the International Light Art Center Unna: this time, “Words Don’t Come Easily” will be the theme of the exhibition.
The artists presented in the exhibition take up the written word and utilize the former linden brewery’s historic walls as their writing surface. Be it of monumental size like “Revoltage” by Raqs Media Collective, creating a room like the work by American artist Jason Rhoades or interactive like the neon installation “you&me-isms” by Boris Petrosky. This way the words – in part actively, in part figuratively – start communicating with the spectator and, at second view, reveal their meaning by use of their size, movement, or coloration in a completely different light.
